Joyce's 70th Birthday

On September we were invited to a cabin at Park City where Garth's sister, Joyce, was treated by her children to a lovely 70th Birthday celebration.

Garth and Joyce are enjoying the scenery.

The girls had prepared a lovely display of pictures of their mother through the years.

The Making of a Patio

Two or three weeks ago we made the decision to tear down our old deck and replace it with a covered patio. Garth took out most of the deck except for steps. and a small landing.

On the 15th we got a sod cutter and within two days we had the space cleared of grass.

On the 20th Les Allan, our contractor came and put in the forms and got ready for the cement.

First thing Tuesday morning, the cement truck arrived and by evening, we had a nice cement patio.

Early Wednesday morning a large truck pulled up across the street and the large beams and lumber for the project were unloaded.

On Thursday a crew of 3 men arrived and by the time we got home from the temple, we had the roof and extended eaves on the house.

On Friday they worked more on the eaves and built the abbreviated redwood deck and stairs.

Today (Monday) the railing was put on the stairs.

We realize that we have built a temptation for the grandchildren so there will have to be some rules to keep - especially some active young boys - off the roof.

More Birthdays 9/2010

On September 19th, we were privileged to join Deren, Liz and Drake to celebrate Deren's 47th birthday. The cheesecake was wonderful and so was the company.

On Thursday, Sept. 23rd, 2010 we all gathered at Trina and Guy's place for Sheridan's 13th Birthday Bash. For his treasure hunt Guy and Deren came up with a fantasy live action role play.
Sheridan, Marcus, Caleb, Drake and Kasen were the brave warriors who were qualified to try to defeat the evil Darian who had imprisoned Kaliana, the Elven queen, and put a curse on the fairy Tristiana and made her evil.

Sheridan is ready to lead his brave band against the adversary.

Drake is ready to do battle to the evil opponents.

I didn't get any pictures of the battle with "Barney"

But the second challenge was with the evil troll (Guy) but he, too was defeated.

Mitchell didn't want to get involved with the rough action so he and Stephanie watched from a safe distance.

The brave group - Kasen, Caleb, Drake, Marcus & Sheridan - found themselves trespassing in the land of the Wizard of Riddles (Garth) and could only gain their freedom by solving the riddles he gave to them.

They not only won their freedom but were also given an invisible potion to protect them as they go to find Tristiana who was a good fairy but who was under a spell from the evil Lord Darian and was evil.

Tristiana was hiding in the tree in front and her faithful helper, Adelyn was hiding behind the tree to zap the warriors with her powerful flour bag. Two zaps and they were down and could only be revitalized by a spray from the restorative bottle.

After some battle, Tristiana was subdued and had to help the warriors find Kaliana, the elven queen who was being held captive by evil Lord Darian.

The queen was finally rescued and the mighty warriors found the evil Lord Darian anticipating their arrival - sure that he could easily defeat them.

But, alas, the hour was growing late so Lord Darian gave up gracefully without too much struggle and the adventure was finished as Sheridan received the clue to where the stolen treasure was hidden. (his birthday gifts)

Sheridan had a delicious cheesecake (birthday cake) waiting for him and and his gifts to open.

All in all, it was a fun evening.
